Robert Stirling feels up against it. A successful TV director he can only work on documentary, reality or quiz style programmes because this is 2061 and the government of the day has decreed that all fiction is subversive and harmful. At work Robert is under pressure with a new assistant assigned to him that he does not want and a superior who seems determined to remove him from his job. The assistant, Rosemary, goes with him on outside assignments and is soon involved with him in an undercover operation to run a small, private underground theatre. Soon Robert and Rosemary are deeply involved in the theatre and are becoming, against all expectation, lovers. But the clock is ticking, his job is on the line, their involvement in the theatre project a disaster waiting to explode. Soon they must come to terms with the world they live in whatever the cost.
