Description

Long Summary Built in 1872 to house and treat the "mentally insane", Equanimity Hall has stood strong and competent on the original site with very few changes, either structurally or in function, and has helped thousands of disturbed people from all over the western states return to their normal lives as contributing members of society. For the past thirty years, Superintendent Angus Renee has been at the helm of this sedulous institution, helping and rendering solace to those inmates that are in dire need of stability in their lives. Having a fatherly manner about him, and being quite capable of handling unexpected problems, he bestows rewards and punishment with a level hand as he sees fit. Here at the "hall", he is actually master of all he surveys, and due to the fact that all the inmates and two-thirds of the staff are female, he has found to his delight that there are nearly as many pleasures to be had as problems. Just lately, two young men, Price Odell and Tommy Driscoll, have come to work in the maintenance department, due directly to the grace of Superintendent Renee. Having been good friends for years, Price and Tommy are happy to be working together, and also dating two attractive young ladies that share an apartment in town. Life is good. But it isn't long before some of the charm of the job begins to fade. Especially after they discover a rusted, iron door leading down into the dungeon-like rooms of the dank and long-forgotten cellar of the hall. And while it's true most old buildings have their secrets and skeletons in the closet, as it were, they soon find out Equanimity Hall has more than its share.
