At times, when a court rolls over a small citizen, blindly following its paragraphs in a way that even a bystander starts to feel ashamed, a question comes inevitably into a mind; is it Satan himself who leads those institutions? It is incomprehensible why the institution, that should use common sense together with the law sections that apply, never becomes itself liable for its verdicts. The faith to the pillars of society gets a crack that is difficult to mend. I often thought about the brutal death of this young girl, and time after time it made me wish that King Solomon could´ve been around to give his verdict instead. The sentence for the crime was so ridiculously low in the context of the immense, irreversible pain and suffering it left in the hearts of the family members, that I believe it would´ve been correct to let the culprit feel in his own flesh the inexorable finality of his actions. Just as a sick heart won´t heal without treatment, neither does the killer´s values of life with a degrading court verdict. Empathy is the most important of feelings. Without it you cannot see things from the other person´s point of view, nor can you see how you could at least somehow try to compensate the pain you´ve caused them by doing something bad. My own embarrasment as a citizen, who followed this tragic event from a side, relieves perhaps a little when I´m able to write about it, although I will probably never fully forget it. I attended the same school as Eveliina did, and over the years I walked and rode my bicycle on the same roads more than thousand times. I know this neighborhood like my own pockets, which in its turn made the narrative considerably much deeper than I first intended. Even though the events are built around facts, heaven´s viewpoint as such is merely built on my assumption as a writer. It took me light years away from my own electronic device, as my imaginary visions about the afterlife, which do not follow any particular religious belief, sensitized me to see things from a deeper point of view. The legal court decisions are directly borrowed from the official court documents. I respect the victim´s family, and sincerely hope that my book does not violate them in any way, but perhaps brings a ray of sunshine into their day. Although their loss has undoubtedly been immense and painful, life goes on, its beauty still waiting to be discovered. Love is a balsamic cure that heals even deep wounds, and I believe that if in the middle of all sorrow one is able to search for strength beyond the physical existence, it brings purpose to life, and much needed beauty for the broken soul.
