Aviation Admin.'s (FAA) successful transition to its Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) depends on developing and implementing the System Wide Information Management (SWIM) program. FAA plans to spend about $284 million through 2015 to implement the first of three stages of SWIM. As envisioned, SWIM will form the basis for a secure network that manages and shares information more efficiently among all air traffic systems that will comprise NextGen.
