The sun is setting on America’s heyday, but if you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the people and places that made this nation great. This action packed and adventurous story begins by stepping back in time and reliving the years from 1959 - 1976 in the great city of Youngstown, OH. Youngstown was a rough town, but no one was tougher than the Banna family. The story begins with a seemingly innocent Sunday outing to the church picnic area called Cedar Lake. Shortly thereafter it is revealed that Nazih is being picked on by the neighborhood bully, Binki Smalls. Nazih’s father, who was famous in his own right for being the town ‘Strong Man’ in his village in Lebanon, takes it upon himself to teach his son not only how to rout his foe, but how to be a true man in a treacherous and unforgiving world. The Bannas battled life in the streets, the classroom, and on the gridiron at Youngstown State University in order to improve their lot. The Banna brothers are the last bastions and shining examples of real men who lived life to the fullest and feared no one. Barroom brawls, backyard football, boxing, women, car bombings, mob violence, and seemingly dangerous excursions to Cleveland, Youngstown State Football team camp on the shores of Lake Erie, and Spring Break to Florida were the norm for this rambunctious and wild trio. Ricky, the youngest of four siblings makes the claim that ‘We’re Hell When We’re Well and We’re Never Sick”. Despite their individual toughness, they drew strength from one another and bonded together when tragedy struck. The brothers’ older sister and caretaker Rose is tested early in her childhood. Rose had to overcome the burdens associated with caring for her elderly father Nazih, her sickly mother, Rose, and her three wild brothers. The untold stories of the past come to life as Rose and her brothers touch the lives of Super Bowl QB Roger Staubach, Ron Jaworski, Ed O’ Neil, Jimmy Cummings (Winnie the Pooh), Sean Connery, Joe Nameth, Cliff Stoudt, Dwight ‘Dike’ Beede, Bob Dove and many other local legends. But no life and no story would be complete without taking on the greatest challenge of all and that is love. Cupid’s arrow hit harder than any of the brothers did on the gridiron when it pierced deep into the heart of a beautiful temptress named Patty, who inadvertently pits brother against brother. But it doesn’t stop there. The road to the altar is a long and winding road for some, but for others the sands of time are quickly flowing against them. Rose must quickly decide whether or not she will pursue a newfound romance with a mysterious Lebanese love named Salloum who may be forced to return against his will to his native country of Lebanon. She knows that whatever choice she makes, it will certainly last a lifetime. After a lifetime of impatiently waiting, Nazih is finally given the opportunity to fulfill his childhood dreams, but in order achieve his dreams he must choose between devotion to his family and his own personal goals. Tommy, the middle brother, leaves town, but he quickly returns home when his family is in dire straits. This leads to a second chance at love with an old flame whose love still burned like the hottest of embers. Ricky, the youngest sibling, is a free spirit and the town playboy. He struggles to settle on just one woman, but the woman at the moment is Wendy. As time goes on Ricky evaluates his life and in the end sacrifices his own well being for the good of the family. The final scene and end to this saga is a tribute to Rose, Nazih, Tommy and Ricky’s father, Nazih M. Banna. Some say that love lasts a lifetime, but for Nazih M. Banna, his devotion to his wife, his family and his church was truly eternal. About the Author - T.D. Banna is a proud and humble member of the Banna family.
