Cain's new found wealth with plantation homes, cotton fields and running a successful business becomes overwhelming. Understanding the enormity of running such a business his mother and father agree to move into the plantation home to help out. Sheriff Cargill who is like family agrees to move with them. The lovable Sheriff is very much part of the story and will make you laugh and melt your heart. One of the sub plots involve the Jackson Whites a group of mixed breeds, all descendants of a genetic anomaly spawned from inbreeding in their families. The chiseled-faced people includes slaves and escaped convicts who live no better than animals. They become a force to be dealt with committing murder, stealing and kidnapping young women.
