Some of those I've written about in this book I only knew as a student at the London College of Printing (LCP) studying New York Art Director Annuals in the college library. And then, as a junior in the business, being inspired by their work. They set a high bar to follow. It's important to note that besides the Mad Men featured here there were plenty of Mad Women who you will meet in the following pages. If there is a Heaven, then the following people would make for a Creative Department to die for. I suspect that by writing campaigns for tobacco, booze, sugar, lotteries, and fast food, I'm headed for the "fiery furnace".I apologise, up front, for leaving out any agency that you feel should have been included, those mentioned are the ones I knew more about or had worked at.My love and fascination with advertising may seem abnormal to some but it provided an inspiring and fun-filled time and the opportunity to work with some of the funniest and cleverest people to walk this planet.I found moving to live and work in Australia an easy move to make (my wife wasn't as keen, leaving parents and friends behind). I liked the work coming out of agencies such as The Campaign Palace, Saatchi's, and many others. Indeed, the standard was so high, Australia ranked third amongst the award-winning countries. I also love the egalitarian nature of the country with no visible class systemGrowing up in England, I was very aware of the "Them & Us" nature of society. But advertising was a different story.People like me and those mentioned by Dave Trott in his introduction were able to make better lives for themselves, even if many of us came from what were described as disadvantaged back grounds. For example, there was Kenny Nicolas, described as: "The best Anglo/Armenian Copywriter in the UK." And Andy Arghyrou (R.I.P.), was described as: "The best Anglo/Greek Art Director in the UK."
