Here was the deal:Every day, for 30 days before polling day in Japan on December 16th, 2012, I would write a 1,000-word essay about the coming election, my life and anything of relevance to understanding what in blazes was going on in Japan. And I succeeded.Well, I managed to edit the pieces into a coherent whole and publish it as a book. Whether it succeeds as a universal explanation for the election is doubtful. But it is an honest and true reflection of what it was like for me at least to live through a Japanese election campaign that saw one of the least liked politicians of a hated political party win one of the most unlikely electoral landslides of recent times. And the print book includes 20 sketches the author drew. I'm not sure who would be interested in this tale (or the sketches, ahem), possibly folks interested in Japan or folks interested in politics, but either way it looks like Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will be reshaping Japan and possibly the world (let's hope not) so here's how he got into that position.
