Greg is missing and no one can believe it, except for maybe Brittany Sullivan, his girlfriend. She's always had this secret fear that one day Greg would realize he could do way better. Sure, she has a few self esteem issues, but this is about more than that. Some people are simply better than other people, and he is way better than most. Nicer too. Not fake nice; actual nice. He would never act one way around a person, and then talk crap about them the minute they left the room. So him leaving her wouldn't be a complete surprise, especially after what happened on the last night she saw him alive. The same fight they'd been having for weeks, only this time there was a look on his face when he walked out of the room . . . But would he abandon everyone else that cared about him and depended on him? Would he really just walk away without a single good bye? His friends refuse to believe it. Greg was the best of them; the one trying to hold it together for everyone when it all went wrong and the lights went out. Literally. There has been no electricity in their town for months, and no word from the outside world. People have left town to try and find help and discover what is happening . . . but no one has ever come back. Up until now Brittany's coping skills in dealing with what may be the end of the world have consisted of denial, heavy drinking, and waiting for the National Guard to show up and fix everything. Then she finds something of Greg's that he never would have left behind no matter what. So if he didn't leave willingly then what happened to him? And where is he? Waiting for help that may never arrive is no longer an option, not if she wants to find out the truth about Greg's disappearance. And denial is out, too. She needs to know the truth, no matter how painful. The search for Greg leads Brittany to question people she thought she knew and forces her to alienate even her closest friends. Each new discovery she makes only seems to deepen the mystery, including the presence of someone hiding out in their town with his own hidden agenda. And does that agenda have anything to do with the reason why Greg is no longer around? It will be a long and painful journey with many twists and turns before Brittany finally puts all the pieces of the puzzle together to reveal the truth. Facing that truth with all its sadness and regret will leave her with one final question: Is she strong enough to survive the end of the world in order to create a new one?
