The Founding Fathers gave us the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution during the age of Christian Reformation. The Lord allowed them or some of them access to truth found only in the Perfect Law of Liberty and they realized that our Creator had all authority in matters of morality and that Denominational bibles needed reform. Many Americans were in this country because of persecution and crusades from Denominational religions. They did not believe that Satan was a fallen angel since it is not in the Bible and because it justified Denominational bibles, no they believed correctly that spiritual warfare was between God and men, and those men who harmed other men by their doctrine were evil men. The separation of church and state was to try to keep Gnosticism from spreading any more between one and the other. They knew that Gnosticism would get worse and worse if left unchecked, which is one reason they saw the urgency of a Constitution! It taught the truth that was necessarily hidden 1 Cor. 2:7 from many people 2 Thessalonians 2:11. Truths such that all men are created equal and the concept of a republic where men were not qualified to determine matters of morality. The Constitution gave the whole world a glimpse of freedom from every wind of doctrine of men because it utilized values only found in the Perfect Law of Liberty! Gnostics around the world, of course, hated the Constitution and Constitutional Christian Patriots just as the Lord had warned John 15:18. But both the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence gave the whole world hope against oppression!
