HEJIRA: From cradle to grave is the first official poetic offering by Reginald T. Jackson and is a 2008 Lambda Literary Award Nominee for Poetry. A pioneer in the Black Gay Male Literary community for over twenty years., Reginald T. Jackson, is a founding member of Other Countries : Black Gay Men Writing and helped create some of the most important literary anthologies, events and archives for the black Gay community. Working along side such Black Gay legends, which he simply called friend, Essex Hemphill, Donald Woods, Assotto Saint, Rodney Dildy, Marlon Riggs, Craig G. Harris, Melvin Dixon, G. Winston James, James Earl Hardy, etc, he became committed to documenting the lives and experiences of the Black Gay men around him including himself, so that they could never again be marginalized or rendered invisible within the Black community and/or the Literary community. As a writer, I strive for truth even at the expense of myself. In order to know that what I write is worthy of being shared, each time I write I open a vein and dip my pen inside and put the contents directly on the page. The works in Hejira span twenty years from the first real poem I ever wrote to works that are hot off the presses. It is divided into three sections addressing first Love, Life and finally Death. This is the journey I have taken so far and want to share with the world.
