Description

This volume reproduces, for the first time, the complete death records of Highland County, Virginia from the beginning in 1853 until the end of 1898-two years after Virginia counties were relieved of that obligation! This volume also incorporates twenty-seven years (1871-1898) of death records hidden from public view and use for about forty years. A complete reproduction of the entire death record entries can be found on these pages; this is not a book of abstracts. These records generally include: full name of the deceased; sex and race (white or colored); date and place of death, cause of death; age; names of parents, spouse, and informant; place of birth (generally county); marital status; and occupation.
