There is an old saying: "Hungry dogs eat poison," referring to the desperation and greed of man. Bruce Lloyd, a captain in the South African Police Services is summoned to solve a murder case in a small Karoo town. Bruce has resigned from the police and this will be his last case. Little does he know how this trip will influence the rest of his life? He meets a colonel, head of National Intelligent who invites him to head an elite unit to investigate sensitive cases. His team is small but they are all at the top of their profession. Their first task is to find thirty tons of gold that was stolen. The gold was hidden by the previous Government in the late fifties for the rebuild of the country in case of World War Three. Good detective work leads them to the culprits. They recover the gold and apprehend those responsible for its theft but then things start to go wrong. Soon they find themselves on the wrong side of the law. The law they were suppose to uphold. They learn quickly to what measures people will go once greed takes over their lives. New love is found but can it withstand the tension and deceit they have to deal with. The more they dig the more bad they find. Are they hungry dogs or is someone else to blame? Can they get out of the mess or will they become the puppets of the greedy?
