Journeys are very familiar to Josiah Venture Kids, the children of Josiah Venture missionaries. They have packed countless suitcases, can tell you about their favorite airports, and have said goodbyes too many times to count. Their creativity, honesty, and perseverance have shaped the moments of their lives as they have grown up as Third Culture Kids (TCKs) in Central and Eastern Europe. TCKs are children who are raised in a culture other than their parents' cultures. They are often described as kids who grow up "between worlds". The JV Kids, growing up in this region of the world, serve with their parents as a family on mission. Together, these families have stepped into a movement of God among the youth of Central and Eastern Europe, that finds its home in the local church as we pray for transformation in the next generation of young leaders.In 2008, a group of 32 Josiah Venture Kids, the children of Josiah Venture missionaries, took part in a writer's workshop and wrote stories from their own lives for Volume I of "I Am Third: Stories of Josiah Venture Third Culture Kids". Five years later, the number of JV Kids has doubled. In May 2019, 64 JV Kids, ages 6-18, captured moments of their journeys in writing, culminating in "I Am Third: Volume II." The kids learned how to craft their stories, editing and revising them along the way. We framed this year's writing project, by asking the kids two questions. "HOW DID GOD BRING YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY? WHAT JOURNEYS HAVE SHAPED WHO YOU ARE NOW?"Our hope is that you will see into the hearts of the JV Kids and pray with us that they grow up to wholeheartedly follow Jesus, loving God with all their heart, soul and might. Our prayer is that as these kids grow up experiencing the unique challenges and opportunities of growing up in a cross-cultural context, they would see that God changes the lives of young people in Central and Eastern Europe, and that he changes their own lives too.
