"It was the day of a literary doorknob, a romantic paper cut, an overheard argument, and a misused spindle. Coincidentally, it was my first day as a professor, the day I saw snow for the first time, and arguably the worst day of my life."He had no idea how bad (and ludicrous) it was going to get. For example, he (Olivier X. Lincoln) discovers the body of a fellow professor who has been killed in a most unusual fashion. Most unusual. Oliver is stunned when the detective shows up and states the victim died of a heart attack. Heart attack? No way! But strangely, all the other professors and all the staff, pretty much everyone, insist it wasn't murder. Furthermore, the dead guy was not all that nice, and almost everyone is glad he's dead.Oliver decides to investigate. How could he not? In the process, he and his beautiful, feisty, smart-alecky "mentor," break into two other professors' offices, get shot at, and sort of become romantically involved. He accidentally gets romantically involved with a student worker too, discovers a few skeletons in closets (a cross dresser, a professor who has two identities, two offices, and collects two paychecks, a deathbed confession to the crime from a person who obviously could not have done it, etc. etc.), and realizes the prime suspect is a very nice person in a wheelchair who is terminally ill and has plenty of motives. Furthermore, even if the suspect is proved to be the killer, what are they going to do to him? He's dying anyway. But he is certainly not the only suspect. In fact, there are a lot of suspects. In fact, a lot of people have motives, and it seems a lot of money is changing hands. What's going on? "If you ask me, it was murder," Oliver thinks. But he seems to be the only one who will admit it really was. Eventually he solves the crime, then is amazed at just how wrong he is.
