This book contains editorial articles of Sri K.D. Sethna (Amal Kiran) written for the fortnightly Mother India, during the years 1949-51. Their immense value lies in the fact that all of them except the last two were read out to Sri Aurobindo and approved by him. The articles are arranged in four sections. The first section - The Spirit and Genius of India - deals with cultural issues and with India's spiritual genius. The second and third sections - Independent India and International Issues - comment on the political situation in India and the world during 1949-50. It is interesting to note that most of the problems discussed in these two sections still remain throbbing issues of the day. While the stand taken on some of the issues may need to be modified in places with the passing of time and the change of circumstances, subsequent events have shown the depth and validity of the basic insights expressed by the author and many of them are still relevant for the future of India and the world. The fourth section - The Vision and Work of Sri Aurobindo - deals with the all-embracing spiritual vision and mission of Sri Aurobindo and his silent spiritual action on the world. A large number of the articles, specially those dealing with political issues, are being reprinted for the first time. It is hoped that these articles will not only reveal a hitherto not-so-well-known aspect of the personality of Sri Aurobindo, but also provide with a guiding light on a variety of issues.
