Influence is the story of a young woman's journey from Venezuela to the United States where she and her family are coming to grips with the disappearance of her father. Her mission is to find him, and to become what she has always dreamed of being: a celebrity. She starts out at the bottom, but she quickly finds a friend and partner to make social media videos with, someone with dreams of his own and a deep dark secret he has been trying hard to hide. Their connection brings them to Miami Beach where the glamour and intrigue is miles thick, and into the gravitational pull of a wealthy, attractive man who recognizes in her something he has been looking for. She begins making promotional videos for his cosmetics company, and with his help finds success, but as she advances through the ranks of the social media influencers, the pressure to outdo her competition becomes suffocating. When she finally comes face to face with her greatest fear, the intelligence officer responsible for her father's disappearance, she turns the tables on him using social media to right a longstanding wrong and to acquire financial if not legal justice. After the destructive truth about social media is fully understood by her, she channels her father's wisdom, and at the annual fashion show uses everything she has learned to bring the curtain down, revealing to all the harm that results when status-seeking peer's resort to bullying and taunting which in our brave new electronic age becomes computerized, weaponized, and for those at the top of the social media pyramid, monetized.
