The setting: The story begins around the 1st decade of the 21st century in the background of New Delhi, India. The life of Indian teenagers, their emotions, and their struggles to keep up with society and its norms are depicted. Some real-life incidents, major global concerns like child abuse, and how our characters dealt with it. The Main Characters: Yamini Khanna, a 16-Year-old, London-based girl, moves to India on a student exchange program to understand and feel their culture (Her roots belonged to India as her grandfather moved to England in 1937). Here she makes good friends with Ashvani and Ritvik. Ashvani Tyagi, an average 16-year-old Delhi boy, liked Yamini from his 1st encounter with her. But Yamini was more attracted to Ashvani's best friend Ritvik. Expect the unexpected from him. When he is around, chaos is nearby. Ritvik Prakash is a seventeen-year-old, smart, intelligent, and more of a technology person. A great friend and in some way deflects away their advances of Yamini toward him. He is certainly not gay, but he had some issues. Mrs. Tyagi, if ever the Character of Sherlock Holmes will be gender-swapped then she is the one to portray it in the best possible manner. She was a housewife, not a common one. Her brain and instincts worked faster than computers. Mrs. Sood is a twenty-eight-year-old widow of an army man. She was impressed with the charm of Ashvani during a meeting at Shree Sai Temple on a certain Thursday. Her intensified desire strategies to entrap Ashvani to satisfy her bodily needs. The Plot: A confused, complicated average Ashvani starts his 1st day of 10th grade, at New Delhi school. For the 1st time he was carrying the second year in the same school as his parents moved all the time, a different city every year. He met his best friend, Ritvik, and his crush- Yamini, a girl from London, on the very same day. The three of them become very good friends and explore many places in Delhi together enjoying each other's company. Meanwhile, Ashvani likes Yamini from day one, while Yamini has desires for Ritvik who doesn't care much. Ashvani confronts Ritvik about Yamini's feelings toward him, but Ritvik denies any interest in taking things forward and is in a happy place without all such complications. Mrs. Sood, a ravishingly hot, widow enters the life of Ashvani on a certain Thursday Temple Meeting. Her desires got the better of her. She liked him, she wanted to have him. She formulated a plan in front of Ashvani's mother by playing her widow card to entrap him. She succeeded. Ashvani goes to her house, things intensify between them. And so on... (No, I won't disclose it here, better to read in the novel.) Time flew at its constant speed and it was time for Yamini to go back to London. Her farewell party was organized and many of her friends were invited to her host mother's house. Ritvik and Ashvani too were there. She noticed some strange behavior in Ashvani. After the party, she calls and questions him about his strange behavior. Ashvani gives her translucent answers and leaves rest to her speculations and imaginations. His act hit like a tsunami in Yamini's world. With the help of Ritvik, she plans a secret meeting with Ashvani (without his knowledge) and wants to confront him for his odd behavior and acts. Her plan was perfect and surprises Ashvani by reaching his house when his family was out for the whole day. Things got heated between us, there were hugs and steamy kisses and much more... (Help yourself.) What makes the story special and attractive? The name of the novel is Intense Desires. It depicts the theory of Like vs Love vs Lust in plain words. It will test your nerves; will give you goosebumps and certainly won't let you second guess the author. There is fun, dilemma, fantasy, separation, and everything which you require of a coming-of-age novel.
