Description

James Alexander Quick came to Gaylord at the age of twenty-four in 1881. Upon his arrival he set out to build an array of diverse businesses. Most of these businesses were in partnership with either his brother Charles Quick, or Charles Quick and A. B. C. Comstock. They included a livery stable, general stores, Otsego County Bank, Delmont Hotel, and a carriage store. He was truly one of the famous early Gaylord pioneers. Besides his business interests, James Quick was a two-term Village Trustee. His poor health resulted in his early death at the age of fifty-two. He built his house at 120 North Center Street in Gaylord, Michigan in 1900. After his death, the house was the home to a number of doctors. The house is one of the best examples of the Queen Anne style to exist in Gaylord. James A.
