"The year is 1778 and the American Revolution has been raging for 2 years. Will Yelverton, a 19-year-old master gunsmith with dreams of a life on the frontier, has been reluctantly pulled into the fight. Upon arrival in the bustling port city of Sunbury, Georgia, Will chances to meet Colonel Samuel Elbert, commander of the Continental Army forces in Georgia. Will and Colonel Elbert become fast friends, and that friendship draws Will even deeper into the events of the Revolutionary War in Georgia. Will fights in the Naval Action at Frederica, an obscure but valorous fight between the Georgia Navy's heavily armed river galleys and British fighting ships. This engagement pits Will a second time against Rebecca and her captain, John Mowbray. Weary from battle, Will travels to his home in North Carolina to visit his parents and his sweetheart, Abby. Along the way, Will becomes friends with Lt Colonel Francis Marion, the man who will later become the famed Swamp Fox. Once again placing his dream for a peaceful life on hold, Will returns to Georgia and to the battles at Sunbury, Midway, Savannah, Kettle Creek, and the pivotal Battle of Brier Creek. It will take Will Yelverton's Heart of Tempered Steel to survive the cruelty of war that takes Will's friends, pulls him away from his dreams and his family, and forces him front and center into the war for the future of the new American Nation."
