Description

MEET THE NEIGHBORS: Anthony Guidry sat on his bedroom floor repairing a hole in his blow-up doll with a bicycle patch. He carefully glued the little square to Giselle's thigh, then tenderly placed her between his mattress and box springs. He was between girlfriends at the moment. * Charley Byrd was sprawled buck naked in his cracked and duct-taped recliner, feasting on cheese curls, ranch dip and tequila, watching CNN. He occasionally threw a cheese curl at the TV and muttered “lies, all lies.” * Miss Buelah was hanging chicken feet from her curtain rod. “Dey be good medicine, baby. Keep da devils out.” * Louie called another client with the happy news that he had pictures she could use in court. Louie decided it was a good idea to get Mrs. Menendez a little drunk before he gave her the photos, as they showed Mr. Menendez performing crimes against nature with a male prostitute and a St. Bernard. * At the Irish Channel St. Patrick's parade Marsha decided, as cabbages and potatoes whizzed past her head, that she would never understand people who threw vegetables from floats. * Avery Billiot was sitting among the pink plastic flamingoes and other assorted faux wildlife in his mother's backyard when he heard shuffling on the sidewalk. He peeked through the bamboo and saw Miss Libby rounding the corner. She was armed. By the time he turned the corner, Miss Libby had revved up the weed eater. * Miss Beulah wanted to help Donnie Lee, but now was not a good time. She didn't think she could keep a straight face telling a grown man wearing purple fairy wings why he shouldn't drink. * After Leola and Lucille melted the toilet seat while burning old car insurance papers, they decided to use the kitchen sink instead. But when they caught the kitchen curtains on fire disposing of old bank statements, they gave up on barbecuing their trash. * Victor made a little chirping sound. These were savages! Wild beasts! And the cleaner one with the long braids had fabulous muscles. Avery just ignored the little fagot in purple. * Jimmy didn't think he could handle another exorcism. Every evening with Grandmamma was a three-Valium event. Read Just Off the Streetcar Line and meet the rest of the neighbors!
