Learning to Lead represents a journey of learning -- learning to compose scholarly work, learning to research with integrity, and learning to lead. This collection of essays is the culmination of an advanced leadership course taught as part of a doctoral program within the Drake University School of Education. In addition to writing the book, members of the cohort also edited, designed, and published the edition within a 43-day timeline. Practicing to be authors, editors, and designers of this book provided these students the opportunity to grapple with the dynamics of leadership and followership while working toward a successful, collectively created project. This book includes topics chosen by 22 avid, intelligent, and dedicated researchers. The selected topics support the direction of each writer's intended dissertation while embedding a leadership theory within the framework of that particular topic. The collection of these chapters contains the thoughts and reflections surrounding topics that have importance not only to this doctoral cohort, but in each of the fields to which they are contributing: elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, businesses and non-profits. Striving to become better educators, professionals, leaders, followers, and human beings, this cohort invites you, the reader, to join them on this dynamic journey.
