When Jo digs up a reliquary in the garden of her neighbour's house in France, she has no idea that it originated in England and was once in the possession of a Plantagenet Princess. She also has no idea that this is not the first time she has held it...Mat and Jo first fell in love in the year 1199. Then he was Matthieu, a knight and tutor to the Count of Toulouse's only legitimate son. She was Joana, daughter of an impoverished knight, and Matthieu was married to her sister. Being a good son of the Church, Joana was well and truly out of bounds for Matthieu - but that didn't stop him wanting her. To save his soul, and hers, he came up with a plan that had far-reaching and unexpected consequences - especially since the Pope had just decided to send a crusade against the Cathar heretics who lived in great numbers around Toulouse. In 1538, Matthew wanted only to become a monk at Glastonbury Abbey. When he was thrown together with the very attractive Lady Johanna, he was told that she wanted to become a nun at Amesbury Priory. What he didn't know was that she was running away from a distaseful fate and that time was running out for both of them. Henry VIII had parted company with Rome and Thomas Cromwell was in the process of dismantling all the Monasteries and Abbeys in England. Matthew and Johanna were sent to France, with a reliquary. What they didn't realise was that the reliquary contained more than just a piece of bone from the King's least favourite saint. It also contained something which would put their lives in jeopardy and force Johanna to face her past. Now, in the present day, Jo is a hospice nurse who is looking after her dying neighbour, Blanche. When Blanche's nephew, Mat, comes to help, Jo is dismayed to find herself falling deeply in love with him. The problem is, he is a Catholic priest and very serious about his calling. However, it transpires that Blanche has plans for Mat and Jo, and secrets that will be revealed only after she has died - secrets that involve that least favourite saint again.
