Lucy Dangerfield is a librarian for the Ivywood Public Library. She lives with her four cats, Leo, Hank, Jasper and Miracle. She loves her life just fine being the introvert that she is. All she needs is a good Elijah Riley Mystery to read. Her mother tried hard to mold her into what she wanted her to be. At a young, age Lucy tried gymnastics. Lucky for Lucy, her coach was a great guy. Naomi Dangerfield had Lucy try dance classes. If she couldn't make her into an Olympic gymnast perhaps a Prima Ballerina? Lucy had big, thick, glasses until she discovered contact lenses at age fourteen. Big glasses and pink tutus? No way. Then Lucy learned how to play the violin, but she wasn't a prodigy, so that wasn't good enough for Naomi Dangerfield either. Her parents died in a car accident when she was seventeen leaving her in the care of her eccentric great-aunt, Agnes Dangerfield. Aggie's love gave her self-confidence. Lucy came out of her shell a little more, but she still didn't have the friends she should have from high school or college. She preferred her introverted ways hiding among her books with her four mischievous cats until Colt McCallister moved in next door. The new vet in town has some handsome friends. His college roommate Eric Williams. His brother, Jason McCallister. His cousin, Rogue Harper an ex-Army Ranger who has a great deal in common with Lucy. He was raised by an aunt and uncle, after his mother, Indie died when he was thirteen. Colt's most famous friend, mystery writer Elijah Riley. They form a crew, a big, happy family that Lucy hasn't had in a very long time. They welcome Lucy in while she and Colt develop a loving, relationship. After Aggie catnaps Jasper and takes him to Colt for a checkup, she prompts the vet to ask Lucy on a date. Everyone in Ivywood isn't so happy about the new budding relationship between Colt and Lucy though. The house behind Lucy's is where Mr. Hobs, a retired gentleman with daily routines who lives with his wife, Audra. After an argument in the yard with her, he is no longer seen watering his lawn or weeding every day. He loves the sunshine and being outdoors. Something strange is happening with Mr. Hobs and Lucy is worried. His best friend and next-door neighbor, Albert Hammer demands to see him, but Audra Hobs refuses him entrance to her home. Albert promises to return with the police if he doesn't see his friend soon. Lucy finally sees Mr. Hobs in his bedroom window. She thinks he's waving to her for help. Then Mr. Hammer is found dead at the bottom of the steps to the basement of his home. The official autopsy report is a heart attack and brain injury from falling down the stairs. Mrs. Hammer has him cremated before their children can question how he really died. Another time, Rogue sees Mr. Hobs at the bedroom window and a word to the Sheriff creates a whole new bucket of issues for Lucy and Rogue as they start to investigate the mystery surrounding the Hobs and what's really going on in that house. She might be pint sized but when an intruder breaks into her house, she is able to fight him off. The intruder she assumes is James Hobs, the son of William and Audra Hobs sent to her as a warning to mind her own business. She's left battered and bruised but she's still curious about what is going on in the Hobs' house as is Rogue. Her aunt's neighbor Teddy is growing increasingly controlling of her aunt. Lucy has more on her plate than she can deal with after all four tires are slit, on her Jeep. The mysteries at the Hobs' house and attacks on Lucy all come to a boil one night in Rogue's apartment and everyone's roles will be revealed by some surprising confessions. The pint-sized librarian just might have to save everyone including Rogue, Teddy and Mr. Hobs.
