"This book represents a collaborative effort started by Alma Victoria Davies Lusk in 1938. Samuel Stowell Lusk got the idea to update his grandmother's account in 1978 while visiting her in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After his untimely death, his cousin, William Charles Lusk inherited the manuscript and continued the project. Many Lusk family members have contributed to this effort relaying not just their genealogy, which goes back to stories indelibly linkig them to a place in American history.
