In August 1961, while attending an international congress in Montreal, Dr. Mikhail Klochko defected to Canada. Before his defection, he was an esteemed Soviet chemist, the holder of a professorship in Moscow, and the recipient of a Stalin prize. After 1961, he became a writer of political commentaries, scientific reports, and especially short stories. In addition to an essay by Vadim Koukouchkine and Carter Elwood, this volume includes seven of Klochko's unpublished short stores,which provide a satiric and revealing picture of life in Krushchev's Russia, as well as a finding aid to Klochko's letters and research notes at the National Archives of Canada and the Centre for Research on Canadian-Russian Relations at Carleton University.
