The authors show that regardless of an artist's faith or religious convictions, the Judeo Christian tradition has proved a fertile ground for visual inquiry.The volume is divided into two main parts: the first part presents an introduction to the Judeo-Christian tradition and twentieth-century art by MOBIA's Chief Curator, Patricia Pongracz, followed by five essays, which look at how and why 20th-century artists have grappled with the Judeo-Christian tradition. The second part of the book presents the main catalogue of approximately 35 artworks, each accompanied by discursive entries, which assess the wider significance of the work, as well as its place in the artist's career.
