Mistakes to Miracles: The Autobiography of a Defense Scientist is the memoirs of Dr. Saroj Kumar G., written in the year 2016. This book talks about the life story of a street boy who worked hard throughout his life to earn a doctorate from Department of Aerospace Engineering of Indian institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. This is the first time that a Radar Scientist from Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (DRDO) has written a detailed account of his life and his association with many of India's Scientists, teachers and his colleagues.Saroj Kumar Gour was born on 30 November 1974, in a tiny house in Cuttack, a small town of Odissa then. His father Kali Das Gour, was a descendant of a Telugu speaking family from Andhra Pradesh who were settled in Dewan Bazar. After providing brief descriptions of his parents and early life, Saroj explains how he struggled with local language Oriya during his schooling days and determined to excel in his studies in spite of the language barrier. He describes his sports and cycling experiences with his brother & friends during childhood days. He narrates how he used to explore new places in his town right fromthe age of six. He explains about his enjoyment with his family and friends during festivals. This book talks about the sacrifices made by his family, parents and siblings for his studies in spite of poor health condition of his father. He narrates about his five year plan for PhD in the year 2006 and how he got admission in University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and received offer letter for UTS presidents scholarships. He explains in detail the reason behind refusal of Visa by Australian High Commission in spite of clearance from Government of India. He talks about his detailed encounter with his PhD guide at IISc right from the first meeting. He describes how he was able to partially meet his five year plan in spite of difficulties that he faced during this journey. He explains the extension of his five year plan till publication of his journal paper at American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). He describes about the balanced approach of his activities towards office, family and studies during his PhD days. He gives tips in detail for successful and fast completion of PhD.In this book, the Route to success is clearly shown by him through setting goals, planning, self-management, self-motivation, positive attitude, determination, persistence and non-stop hard work during failures. He brings out the importance of collaboration and networking with friends and teachers. He conveys that the ultimate success is never achieved without divine intervention although hard work is the main fuel for success. Saroj reviews his parents and family members' efforts towards his studies, as well as his experiences with his teachers. He talks about the devotion of his parents and their hand in the construction of the Street temple. He describes in detail his college and engineering life including his initial struggle for job at Cuttack and later at Bangalore. He explains his activities and contributions towards various projects of DRDO includingSAM System and SBAR which has got recently inducted into Defense Services. Dr. Saroj is a devotee of Sri Satya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi. In this book, he explains in detail his experiences with Sri Satya Sai Baba right from his first encounter with Himin the year 1983.
