Bill Wylie was born in Kansas in 1908 to a large family. He was #6 in a family of 13 children. His young life was filled with adventures in and around Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Minnesota, and in the wheat harvest in Saskatchewan, Canada. All this moving was due to his Dad who had a wanderlust. Bill married Bessie O'Rear in 1928, in Oswego, Kansas and together they struggled through the Great Depression, surviving on Bill's trapline of squirrels, and rabbits. Also chicken, eggs, milk, and butter from their farmer parents. Bill and Bessie had five children. They lost the first child, as the boy lived only a few days. Their other four, 3 girls and 1 boy, were the focus of their parents' lives as the family moved from Kansas, first to California and then to Oregon, where they settled in Lookingglass Valley. Bill's skills in pipe fitting and plumbing eventually became his livelihood as his family grew up. Their memories complete his life story.
