Wish I got some of the royalties though. INTERVIEWER: Are you and Darby still together? I heard you two broke up. CARISSA: If I answered that, wouldn't that be a spoiler for those who haven't read the book yet? INTERVIEWER: Just wondered. You're such a cute couple. CARISSA: Yeah, okay. We're still together. Tight as can be. I love him more than all the stars in the sky. INTERVIEWER: And how's your sister doing? CARISSA: She's doing great. She's been handling this pandemic isolation way better than me. She's enrolled in a university, and has been taking classes and doing the club scene all on-line. Nothing slows that girl down. INTERVIEWER: I've noticed that Hollywood has been making movies and television shows about you. There's a private eye series with you and Darby, but they've changed most of the names and locations and stuff. You get royalties from that? CARISSA: Not a dime. Just like from this book. INTERVIEWER: How about that animation movie--I won't say the name here--but you know the one I mean. It's obviously about you and your sister, combined with a fairy tale plot... CARISSA: Sure, I know the one. My son even has a blanket with our cartoon faces on it. That movie must have pulled in a couple of billion dollars with box office and merchandising. Don't get me wrong; it's a wonderful movie. But again, not a dime. INTERVIEWER: Does it make you mad? CARISSA: Not really. I'm glad I was able to provide so many jobs to people. I mean... look at that series The Crown. I don't think they pay one cent to the Queen; do you? INTERVIEWER: But you're not the Queen. You're a private citizen. CARISSA: True. I don't think that would have happened in Europe. They have stricter laws there. They have to pay royalties to writers who create characters. And get permission from private people to make a movie about them. INTERVIEWER: I heard you want to home-school your son. CARISSA: That was BEFORE the Covid-19 pandemic. Now I can't wait to get him into a good school. We've all been home too much. We're going nuts. We all need to get out and interact with the world. That's true for me and you and the kiddies too. When's this stupid pandemic going to be over? INTERVIEWER: Maybe when everyone's vaccinated? Oh, and I heard you want to be a private detective now like Darby? CARISSA: Yes.
