Qimmiq Beauvoir (Inuit mother, father descended from French-Canadian trapper), called Beaver or Beav by his friends, will turn 50 in March of 2022. His lifetime goal has been to win the Iditarod. 2022 is the 50th Iditarod and he would like to win it to celebrate his 50th birthday. He came in second in 2021, less than a half hour behind the winner. This has to be his year. Beav's beautiful wife, Carla, likes being the wife of a well-known and well-respected dog breeder and musher, but is she what she seems to be? When Beav's team reaches Nome, he is greeted not by his wife, but an Anchorage homicide detective, Darleen (DeeDee) Donnelly. She informs him that while he was out braving the elements in the middle of nowhere, Alaska, sledding with his dogs, someone murdered his wife. He flies back to Anchorage, telling DeeDee he wants to help with the investigation. He has no idea who would want to kill his wife. The investigation reveals that Carla has lied and cheated throughout their six-year marriage. One of the men she cheated with was DeeDee's ex-husband. DeeDee and Beav travel to Los Angeles to interview Carla's ex-husband, who had been in prison for spousal abuse, attempted murder (of Carla) and the murder of their five-year-old daughter. He was released after three years when his attorney discovered evidence showing that the guilty party may have been Carla herself. So who killed Carla? During the curse of the investigation. Beav and DeeDee find themselves falling in love. Will this new relationship help or hinder finding out who killed Carla?
