Spencer Dunmore's hilarious novel follows the adventures of an ambitious young man from London's Muswell Hill in the New York of the 1950s as he makes his way through the Machiavellian, sometimes ingenuous world of Insurance. It is the summer of 1953 when Norman Pickles arrives in the States from shabby, post-war England, determined to survive and succeed. The job he eventually lands is a lowly one, assistant editor of the Prime Life Insurance Company's house magazine; but thanks to a series of extraordinary accidents he is soon ascending the corporate ladder. The dizzy way upwards for Norman is indeed accelerated by other people's disasters -- with, in its course, many outrageous, alarming and erotic excursions among friends and colleagues. About the author: Spencer Dunmore was a schoolboy in Yorkshire, England during World War II and watched bombers limping home to the RAF airfields there. His imagination was fired by this experience to the extent that he became an expert on the war in the air, 1939-1945, and his accounts of the bombers and fighters involved are renowned for their accuracy. Dunmore left Britain for Canada in the mid-50s where he was an advertising executive for many years. Dunmore is now a full-time writer and a private pilot on weekends and resides in Ontario.
