If I had to pick two topics I would think no one in their right mind would ever connect to attract readers, it would be cancer and politics. So those are the two subjects I chose to write about. Of course, when you are lying in bed so fatigued you can't be bothered to wipe away the drool coming out of your mouth while watching Paul Ryan on TV trying to take away your health care, well these are just the kind of times and circumstances allowing one to make such perhaps rash but certainly personal choices in content.If nothing else, the experience taught me the importance of doing what you can when you can. My initial feelings of helplessness growing into unrequited anger led me to the Internet. A social media neophyte, I began posting on Facebook. At first just my thoughts and I admit more for the therapeutic value than anything else. Soon, I discovered people were interacting with me. Liking, sharing and those things you do on FB. From there, I eventually moved on to Twitter and Instagram. Eventually I attracted the attention of an editor at the Los Angeles Free Press who offered me a position as a staff writer soon to be columnist of what eventually became known as "Phil Drucker Rants." From there it was only a matter of time before I thought why not tell the story of my progression from obscure to mostly obscure cancer survivor, political gadfly and now a writer in a book both electronic and physical form. It seemed to be the next step in an otherwise ongoing journey, from the beginning, lacking in a rational, non-chemo brained influenced sense of purpose. I mean, why start now? So, I did. And here it is. A book about the intersection between the sudden onslaught of a deadly disease and the decline of Western Civilization as we knew it. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did not enjoy writing it. -PD
