Alexa stands at the railing of a cruise ship contemplating suicide. Elderly and intensely lonely, her life just isn't worth living anymore. Before she can make the leap though, a man (Marty) rushes out of the shadows and saves her life. He asks her, "If you were young again would you be so depressed?" Alexa's answer is no, which is just what Marty hoped he would hear. He is a gerontologist who has developed a serum from rare Amazon plants that will reverse the aging process. He offers her the chance to take part in his experiment. At first Alexa is upset at the thought of becoming a guinea pig. But Marty says, "What do you have to lose?" Realizing that her only alternative is suicide, Alexa agrees to participate and keep it a secret. Marty and Alexa find themselves at odds as he chooses her food, makes her exercise, and keeps her hidden, making her feel like a prisoner. But the serum works and the results are amazing. As Alexa metamorphoses into a beautiful, youthful-looking woman her whole world changes, including her relationships with her close friends and family. When Marty's experiment is made public, he begs Alexa to reveal herself to prove it was a success, but she wants privacy, not a life lived forever in the spotlight. For Alexa, eternal youth had seemed like a dream come true--but is it really?
