D. B. Cooper is a media epithet used to describe an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in United States airspace between Portland and Seattle on the afternoon of November 24, 1971. It's November 1971, and a Northwest Orient Airlines Boeing 727 en route to Seattle, Washington is hijacked by a man who went on to demand a $200,000 ransom before parachuting from the plane and disappearing. A small bundle of bills carrying the serial numbers of the bills paid to Cooper would later surface in a riverbed in 1980, but no other trace of the hijacker would ever be found. Soon after the disappearance of DB Cooper, a copycat hijacking was attempted by Richard McCoy. McCoy initially parachuted to earth successfully with a $500,000 payment but was arrested just two days later. Despite significant circumstantial evidence to the contrary, McCoy always denied that he was the mysterious DB Cooper.
