In 2007 I began working on a devotional guide on the Book of Proverbs. Over the last seven years by God's grace I have completed three volume's. This is the fourth book and final book on Proverbs. I have tried to make these books simple and easy to understand. My goal is to help the reader to have a greater understanding of the Book of Wisdom. I don't know of any more powerful book in the Bible then Proverbs. If one can follow the Proverbs in their daily walk, the walk of life will become more enjoyable and profitable in this journey. New Unger's Bible Dictionary puts this way: In the early stages of social intellectual growth, when men begin to observe and generalize on the facts of human life, they clothe the results of observation in the form of short and pithy sentences. Every race not in savage condition has proverbs of this kind. The Heb. word rendered “proverb” has a special significance. The proverb of the Israelites and other people of the East was primarily and essentially a “similitude.” It was thus a condensed parable or fable, capable at any time of being expanded, sometimes presented with the lesson clearly taught, sometimes involved in greater or less obscurity, that it's very difficult might stimulate the desire to know and so impress the lesson more deeply on the mind. The proverb might be a “dark saying” requiring—and receiving—an interpretation, as for example is the case in Proverbs 17:3, “The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests hearts,” a parable expanded in Malachi 3:3, “And He will sit as a smelter and purifier of silver, and He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver.” Other “dark sayings” are deliberately kept obscure, given without any interpretation, and capable of many.
