On Sunday, May 2, 1982, at 4 p.m., in the South Atlantic, geographical position of latitude 55° 24' south and longitude 61° 32' west, the cruiser ARA General Belgrano was sunk by two MK 8 Model 4 torpedoes, launched by the nuclear submarine HMS Conqueror outside the limit of the British exclusion zone.
