This special issue entitled "Recent Advances in Health, Agriculture and Environmental Biotechnology", of Journal of Biochemical Technology (JBT) includes manuscripts of some of the presentations at the National Conference on Recent Advances in Health, Agriculture & Environmental Biotechnology (HAEB-2012), held during April 11-13, 2012 at Department of Biotechnology, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India. The conference was dedicated to gain new knowledge of the health, agriculture and environmental biotechnology, which were enriched by the initial experience from nano-biotechnology and bioinformatics. Biotechnology being an interdisciplinary program finds applications in both biology and technology including agriculture, medicine, engineering and environmental sciences. Modern biotechnology is currently being used for diagnosis, development of new drugs and therapeutics towards various ailments. Its application in agriculture is highly successful and various transgenics have been commercially exploited. Application of recombinant DNA technology in alleviating the environmental problems is very promising. Biotechnology being a dynamic and vibrant field, constant updating of new developments are very much needed. This national conference and the special issue aims to provide a scientific forum and to bring fore the recent advances in medical, agriculture and environmental biotechnology. The book contains 21 peer-reviewed manuscripts on the topics of molecular docking, biofuels, bioremediation, antibacterial and antitumor activity, isolation, production and partial purification of enzymes, molecular detection, taxonomic studies, molecular characterization of various isolates, radio protective efficacy and nano-biotechnology.
