Financial crises, caused by things beyond Bruner's control, only add to the high potential for failure. George E. Smith has worked in a Fortune 100 corporation, been involved in three company start-ups, and managed several family owned firms as COO/CEO. After receiving an M.S. degree in mining geology from the University of Arizona, he joined Union Carbide's Mining and Metals Division, eventually becoming VP/General Manager of their world-wide chromium and manganese business units.
