It will be no exaggeration to say that my family was reduced to near penury because of this. My parents may have realized that farming had no future and with good foresight made me study and accept a humble profession in the vast bureaucracy of the Government of India as a geologist. During the early part of my education engineering and medicine were the destiny professions. Most of my classmates chose those professions successfully. I had realized very early in life that both these professions were not for mediocre students like me. I chose geology for my bread and butter by accident rather than by design.
