During the liberation war, the crimes against humanity including mass killings, tortures, rapes, and burning houses and properties, and displacing millions of Bengalis from their homes committed by the Pakistani forces in 1971. They abducted women and kept them captives as sex slaves in their barracks, camps and cantonments. Maya, a final year medical student was captured from the bus and kept as a sex slave by the occupation forces. She was brutally tortured and raped daily for 8 months. She was released when the occupation forces surrendered. Maya got pregnant. She jumped into the river to commit suicide as she would not be accepted by her family and society. She was rescued by Mamun, a regional commander of freedom fighters and helped her for treatment and rehabilitation. Maya gave birth to a baby girl, Joya. She gave Joya for adoption. She completed medical degree from Dhaka city and escaped from Bangladesh.
