Alan James returns to Banaga in West Africa against medical advice and company policy as he is not completely recovered from a car crash in which his wife died. Their plans to marry are doomed to fail so Patty sets out to overcome all the problems, but can she win Alan back and restore the status quo? Living in Banaga is good, life is easy for expatriates, but for the local domestic staff and at their work it is a very different picture. For them, life is harsh and unfair."
