Description

The purpose of any journal is to give you a place to keep a record of something that is important to you. In this case, the sermon notes you make. If you are like most people who go to church, your sermon notes are scribbled on church programs, scraps of paper, and in little notebooks. This is if you write notes at all. This journal is meant to be a way to keep track of scripture references, your notes, your thoughts, questions, and even arguments with the Divine. Rest assured that it is all right to have questions about life and spirituality. It's all right to have doubts and even arguments about what you read and hear. By voicing these questions, doubts, and disagreements, you are more likely one day to get the answers you seek. Even Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened unto you." Matthew 7:7 If you don't ask, seek, and knock, you're less likely to obtain that which you seek. Most of the time what you seek is in plain sight, but that is not always true. Jesus spoke in parables sometimes to keep the insincere from treating truth lightly. Not only is it helpful to keep your notes in one place, but it can assist you in doing further research in order to answer any questions you may have. Keeping them in one book also allows you to review the sermons you've listened to in the past. After all, your pastor thought the sermon message was important enough to share with you. The least you can do is to review what was said. The structure of this journal is intended to be simple even though it is more involved than the basic spiritual study journal. There are places for you to ask questions. There are places for you to record puzzling passages. There are places for the answers to be recorded as they come to you. There are also extra places for notes and avenues for further reading and research so you can dig deeper. There are no surprises to the structure of the journal, although the answers you receive when you start asking questions may very well surprise you. There is a place to note the date and time of day for the sermon, as well as any questions and the answers that arose from further research. Sometimes answers will follow immediately and sometimes it may take years for the answers to be fully fleshed out for you. Some things may be eternal mysteries to you, and that's okay too. Sometimes life tests us to see how comfortable we are with the mysteries of life and the Divine. It is my hope in creating this journal that it will become a valuable record on your journey of faith and exploration into the mysteries of the universe.
