Brennan identifies three groups of people responsible for eroding Weil's reputation as a philosopher: those feminists who claim her as their 'sister' who with cloying sorority refer to Weil in their biographies as 'Simone' denying her the dignity of her surname; human rights activists who claim her as a thinker who supported statutory human rights when in fact she thought this would muffle the cry of protest from the depths of the human heart and lead to endless nagging claims and counter-claims; and Zionists who have attacked her as a self-loathing Jew for using the word holocaust in a context other than the Nazi holocaust.
