On a sunny summer afternoon, in a quiet neighborhood, a five-year-old girl is abducted in broad daylight. Recently, there's been an alarming uptick in stranger abductions in the United States. Deputy District Attorney Tim McAndrews is on suspension after shooting a serial killer who broke into his home intent on murder. He and his wife, Dani, have decided this is the perfect time to take a ski trip to clear Tim's mind and put the shooting behind them. Before they are ready to head out to Dani's chalet in the Selkirk Mountains of Northern Idaho, Tim's lifelong friends, Medical Examiner Kathy Hope, and Detective Scott Renton, bring him a child abuse case. Twin boys were dumped out front of Seattle's Children's Hospital and have died from excessive abuse. The circumstances are so horrific that no matter how hard Tim wants to push it out of his mind, he can't. As they head for their ski destination, they hash out the evidence gathered so far. Tim has another problem brewing that he's wholly unaware of. A pretty television news journalists, Miss Bibi Knoll, has developed a giant crush that borders on obsession. She is determined to break up his marriage with Dani and step into that role as number one period. By guile, she finds out where he is vacationing and books herself a flight. After a day of skiing, the four friends are immediately drawn into intrigue when a four year old girl is abducted in broad light in front of them. They chase down the kidnapper and rescued the child, but the perpetrator gets away. In the morning, Tim runs into FBI Profiler Elias Cain at the Sheriff's Office. Cain is there at the request of the Sheriff's Department to help identify the abductor and wants Tim to join his team with the FBI. Tim agrees to help, setting his vacation aside. Tim, Cain, and the Sheriff go back up to the Schweitzer Mountain Ski Area to track down their kidnapper. They trace him to a home in the forest through careful detective work, but he's long gone when Tim finds rainbow colored duct tape matching another abducted children they fear they have uncovered a ring can they rescue the child and arrest the villains before the children are trafficked to places unknown and before more evil can befall them?
