This is a story of power and greed, sex and murder, and ultimately justice. On a chilly December morning in 1920, a baby boy was left abandoned in Opelika, Alabama, the product of an illicit love affair between a Yankee drifter and the townA¢a¬a¢s most respected lady. The poor white child with no name was unwanted by anyone except a poor black sharecropper named Reuben. Raised by Reuben and tutored by a spinster schoolteacher named Miss Lilly, the boy learned about love, honor, and the difference between right and wrong. Since he was a bastard child with a black A¢a¬Adaddy,A¢a¬A he faced prejudice from both the black and white communities. He learned to fight, became a Marine and won a Silver Star for bravery in World War II. He ultimately overcame prejudice to rise to a position of power where he could right the wrongs of the past.
