The unique aspect of this book is clearly how it examines "negotiable contracting" -- a new approach to involving students in the assessment process. Negotiable contracting is the art of establishing criteria WITH the students. It is adaptable to an arts & science curriculum & flexible enough to accommodate multi-modal forms of learning. Even though contracts are negotiated, the method ensures that the teacher is in charge of the classroom &, ultimately responsible for appropriate grading procedures.
