Description

Time-travel continues to exercise its mesmeric fascination upon writers, readers and editors of science fiction alike. This is probably because almost all of us, at one time or another, have longed greatly to visit either the future or the past. Perhaps, in view of the dangerous paradoxes such travel must involve, it is a good thing that such horological journeys have to date been confined to the printed page. This book consists of a collection of seven short science fiction stories about time travel. The stories are, (1) Time and the Woman (HER ONLY PASSION WAS BEAUTY-BEAUTY WHICH WOULD LAST FOREVER. AND FOR IT-SHE'D DO ANYTHING!), (2) A Traveler in Time (YOU CAN'T ALWAYS ESCAPE EVILS BY RUNNING AWAY FROM THEM...BUT IT MAY HELP!), (3) Nine Men in Time (The idea of sending a man back in time to re-do a job he's botched, so that a deadline can still be met-added to the thought of duplicating a man so there'll be two doing the same work at the same time-adds up to a production-manager's dream. But any dream can suddenly shift into a nightmare....), (4) Delayed Action (This planet gave him the perfect chance to commit the perfect crime-only he couldn't remember just what it was he had committed.), (5) In the Cards (It is one thing to safeguard the future ... and something else entirely to see someone you love cry in terror two years from now!), (6) Probability (If you ever get to drinking beer in your favorite saloon and meet a scared little guy who wants to buy you the joint, supply you with fur coats and dolls and run you for Congress-listen well! That is, if you really want the joint, the fur coats, the dolls and a seat in Congress. Just ask Mike Murphy....), and (7) Disaster Revisited (It annoyed Jason Wall that everybody talked about death but nobody did anything about it. So he decided to eliminate the pesky nuisance. But in the end he longed for a chance to say, "Fellas-I was only kidding!"). This book is the first one in a series of seven books on this topic. It is a pleasure to publish this new, high quality, and affordable edition of these timeless stories.
