Anais Bellerose was born in Lyon, France an only child, raised by her estranged father an oil tycoon. After his death, she sells the mansion and all its contents and moves to the States. She is eager to embark on the exciting new life as a pianist for The Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Anais buys a bungalow in the quaint town of Lakewood near the shores of White Rock Lake. A few houses down lives her best friend and sorority sister from the University De Lille III, Avery Smith. Whom she has not seen in the five years since graduation and they pick up right where they left off in college. Anais loves her life in Lakewood, Texas. Right up until she is struck by an eighteen-wheeler while cycling. Her friendship with Avery becomes splintered when Anais falls for her attending physician. In a routine day surgery, Anais suffers a heart attack and later a near death experience while under the watchful eye of Dr. Aiden Wells. Avery blames the doctor claiming malpractice, vowing to have his license revoked. Anais struggles to repair the damage done to her heart by the cardiac arrest she suffered. With each passing day; her strained relationship with Aiden, and a lawsuit pending it is almost more than she can bear. Aiden's eyes begin to wander, which makes Avery livid. As Aiden distances himself from Anais, her cardiologist Dr. Peter Lenhoff shows unabashed feelings for her and disgust for the womanizing plastic surgeon Aiden Wells. Anais knows that sooner more than later she will have to deal with the issues that Avery has with and about Aiden. Although distance does not always make the heart grow fonder. Sometimes the heart finds someone new and leaves the chaos behind. This historical romance dates back to the 1934 era after World War I when the small town of Lakewood, Texas was booming with new construction of homes as well as businesses. With the Bonnie Barge of White Rock Lake and the Bathhouse with lower level food and beverages on the walk up sandy beach. Everyone gathered on the shores of White Rock Lake to escape the heat and socialize with family and friends in Dallas, Texas. Anais reaches out to Avery aware that it is imperative in order for their friendship to survive. Avery convinces her that the results will be heart-breaking if she stays with Aiden. Will she choose Peter, the sexy cardiologist from South Africa? In order to find love and happiness she must leave one of them behind.
