In his first adventure, Sam must somehow uncover and foil the hold the villain Montague has over the fair maid Capitola. The Jimtown Sport; Or, Gipsy Jack in Colorado; Or, Deadwood Dick's Dead Deal. When a mysterious sport arrives in the goldrush town of Durango and lays claim to one of the richest strikes there, he faces opposition from all sides, including the girl daredevil Captain Crack-Shot and the evil speculator John Metcalf, who quickly plunge the town into a bloody civil war. Lord Clifford will stop at nothing to learn the truth, but Blake himself is missing and other parties are attempting to take advantage of the situation.
